Did you know that women with children is one of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population? For many families already struggling to make ends meet, necessities like diapers and formula can be simply unaffordable. Imagine everything it takes to be a mother. Now imagine being homeless and having to choose between diapers or food for your child.
Conducted annually beginning Mother’s Day and going through Father’s Day, HomeAid Essentials is a community-wide effort to collect essential items such as diapers, wipes and food for homeless toddlers and infants. The 2016 Campaign was the first year and with the help of the community, HomeAid San Diego collected more than 65,000 ‘essential’ items for babies in need. All items collected for the ‘Essentials for Young Lives Campaign’ are distributed to nonprofit organizations, serving families and children in need, throughout San Diego County.

Interfaith thanks HomeAid San Diego for making an incredible donation to babies and families in need in honor of Diaper Need Awareness Week. The organization dropped off over 5,000 diapers, 5,000 wipes, and other essentials including formula, baby food, toys, books, blankets and diaper cream to Interfaith to restock our warehouse. The donations collected resulted from the HomeAid Essentials for Young Lives campaign, an annual HomeAid spring community outreach program held between Mother’s and Father’s Day to collect diapers and other essential baby items for families in need.
Interfaith also thanks Watkins Landmark Construction, a local Southern California construction company, for assisting in the delivery of the items to Interfaith Community Services’ Betty and Melvin Cohn Center in Escondido on Friday, September 30th.
Thanks to HomeAid, Interfaith will now be able to supply local families in need with items for their children that can be expensive and are often not at top of mind when our community is thinking about making a donation to our organization. We appreciate HomeAid’s support of local families and as always, look forward to continuing our partnership to help people help themselves!
