We give THANKS on Thanksgiving… but do we do enough GIVING back?
National ‘Tie-One-On’ Day is an opportunity to GIVE back to the community just before the festivities of Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Eve, we invite you to Tie One On (an apron of course!) and bring joy to the life of someone in need. Participation is easy and uplifting. Simply wrap a loaf of bread or baked good in an apron and tuck an encouraging note into the pocket. Then present your offering to someone who could benefit from your gesture of kindness. You can bring joy to someone’s life and help them celebrate the spirit of giving.
This is the reason I joined HomeAid’s mission – because giving is contagious.
I had an opportunity to see HomeAid at work a few years ago. There were multiple partners working to provide a solution for homeless veterans who were being released from hospitals out onto the streets. It did not take long for HomeAid to recognize the need, identify potential solutions, partner with powerful allies, and charge forward – bringing the community together to provide a 32-bed facility for veterans and their families to recuperate, right here in San Diego County.
Tears of joy ran down the faces of veterans as they saw the facility the community had provided for them – something where there had been nothing. I felt as though I had witnessed a miracle.
This is what HomeAid does. HomeAid brings joy into the lives of individual people and heart into the battle against the issues facing our communities in San Diego. I knew I had to join their cause.
In the land of the free and home of the brave, some are prisoners of homelessness and some are too scared to face life head-on because they don’t know how they will get their next meal. Witnessing fellow Americans fighting for their freedoms and struggling to be brave has inspired me to join HomeAid in eradicating homelessness and hunger in our community.
November is HomeAid San Diego’s Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month. It is a reminder not to take for granted the luxuries afforded to us. It is a reminder not to forget about our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate. It is a reminder that there are families who do not have a home in which to go. It is a reminder that there are children that will not feast this Thanksgiving without your help.
Let them know you care. Let them know they are not alone. Join HomeAid in doing something – TOODAY!
Tie One On Day is a great way to put the “give” back into Thanksgiving and maybe win one of these great prizes in doing so! There are GIVEAWAYS by generous sponsors – to enter, visit www.apronmemories.com.
Give from the heart – then give thanks.
