Home Start’s Maternity Shelter Program gives young women ages 18-23, who are pregnant or parenting, a place to heal from the trauma of abuse and neglect. Home Start provides them with shelter, guidance and community resources they need to become productive citizens and role models for their children. HomeAid assisted Home Start in the renovation of a seven-plex apartment property in Normal Heights.
The complex will house six or seven young women and their infant and toddler children for a period of one to three years. Home Start closed escrow on the property at the end of October 2010. The General Contractor is Pacific Shores Development. Construction started the beginning of June 2011 and the tenant improvements were completed in January 2011.
HomeAid brought the expertise of GEOCON, KTU+A, RBF Consulting and SB&O, as well as significant donations and discounts from Ingersoll Rand, General Electric and Brickman Group. The project was dedicated on March 23, 2012.
