3rd annual STEP UP! Walk to End Homelessness

San Diego, Oct. 21, 2021 – San Diego nonprofit, HomeAid San Diego, and commercial real estate development association, NAIOP, present the third annual STEP UP! Walk to End Homelessness. The walk will benefit HomeAid San Diego’s mission to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education.

The in-person walk event will take place on November 14 at De Anza Cove at 3000 North Mission Bay Drive San Diego, CA 92109. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and the event officially begins at 8:30 a.m. The virtual portion takes place from November 15 to November 21 and takes place anywhere participants would like.

“We are so excited to be able to host our walk event in person again this year,” said HomeAid San Diego Event Chair, Melissa Stern. “If you’re looking for a way to give back to the community and break a sweat at the same time, this is it.”

Proceeds from the event will go toward HomeAid San Diego’s three program efforts: BUILDS, CARES and WORKS. BUILDS leverages industry connections with construction professionals and material suppliers to cut the cost of building housing for service providers. CARES brings the community together to conduct volunteer work on housing projects and to build ‘Care Kits’ with hygiene essentials. WORKS is the workforce development program that takes at-risk individuals and gives them the opportunity to join the workforce by providing them with the skills, tools, and network to be successful in the construction industry.

Recent successful HomeAid San Diego projects include completing a Culinary Training Center for Kitchens for Good in April 2021 with the help of builder captain, White Construction, Inc, completing a vocational building project for TERI Campus of Life and providing outreach efforts for the Niland Fire victims.

Walk participants will receive a Care Kit to pay forward to someone in need, event graphics, access to all day offerings including guest speakers, and the first 100 registrants will receive event t-shirts and reusable shopping bags.

Registration is available through active.com with tickets starting at $15 per person.
