The Conrad Prebys Foundation Grant Animates HomeAid San Diego’s WORKS Program

The Conrad Prebys Foundation, San Diego’s largest charitable organization, has selected HomeAid San Diego and their new WORKS Program to receive start-up funding from the Foundation’s inaugural grant distribution.

The foundation announced on March 23 that it is awarding 114 nonprofit recipients with nearly $78 million in grants, one of which is HomeAid San Diego’s WORKS Program. The funds awarded to HomeAid San Diego will be used to animate their new WORKS Program which connects at-risk youth with initial opportunities in the construction industry.

The goal of the WORKS program, spearheaded by Lennar, one of the nation’s leading homebuilders, is to prepare at-risk youth and youth experiencing homelessness to work in construction, removing any barriers of employment and providing these youth with a meaningful career opportunity. The WORKS Program also addresses the economic shortage of qualified labor in the building industry.

“We are so honored to be selected as a recipient of The Conrad Prebys Foundation’s first grant cycle. This award will enable us to put our program into action, giving 60 student candidates the opportunity for a better life, with a solid career in the building industry,” said Alexis Parker, executive director of HomeAid San Diego.

“The pandemic has exacerbated the challenges faced by our region’s youth, and the foundation is incredibly grateful to be able to support numerous nonprofits as they provide inspiration and essential services to children in our region over the coming months and beyond,” said Erin Decker, director of grantmaking at The Conrad Prebys Foundation.
