SAN DIEGO, April 1, 2021  White Construction, Inc., working with HomeAid San Diego, recently completed a community outreach build project for Kitchens For Good, a nonprofit focused on providing culinary training to at-risk adults and making meals to feed thousands of San Diegans in need.

White Construction renovated 3,000 square feet of administration offices and remodeled a 2,500 square foot kitchen used as a teaching center and meal prep facility to support local food bank needs during the pandemic.

Over the course of this project, White Construction, Inc. and HomeAid San Diego garnered over $100,000 in donated and discounted materials and services which greatly reduced Kitchens For Good’s expenses.  These savings also enabled Kitchens For Good to reallocate more funds back towards supporting their training, employment and food prep operations.

The new facilities are located on The Salvation Army’s Door of Hope Campus in San Diego.  These updated facilities offer Kitchens for Good expanded culinary training space and a larger building to house their nonprofit headquarters.

“We at White Construction were looking for a project to help be a part of the solution to homelessness in San Diego,” stated Steve White, White Construction, Inc. CEO.   “I joined the board of HomeAid San Diego looking for an opportunity for White Construction to use our skills to make a difference,” Steve added.

“When we heard about Kitchens For Good needing to move to a new facility, we immediately volunteered.  They are a tremendous organization who not only feeds those experiencing homelessness but also provides culinary skills training for folks to get good jobs.  It’s been a privilege to team up with HomeAid San Diego and other professionals and sub-contractors to build these facilities,” Steve White added.

One of the unique aspects of this project was the partnership of all the charity nonprofits working together to support each other.  The Salvation Army, Kitchens For Good and HomeAid San Diego combined forces with a collective goal to feed those in need, provide job skills and employment opportunities and to reduce homelessness across our region.

About Kitchens For Good
Founded in 2014, Kitchens for Good believes that all food has power and that all people have potential. We equip individuals with culinary and hospitality training, as well as the life skills they need to launch meaningful careers so they can move forward in life and make a positive impact on their communities. Not only do apprentices gain valuable training but they also contribute to bettering their community by fighting food waste and hunger. Apprentices prepare thousands of healthy meals for hungry San Diegans, using surplus and cosmetically imperfect produce from wholesalers and farmers.
